Last week, I had the pleasure and honor of accompanying two of our students, Kayla Corne and Ian Leach to the All-Michigan Academic Team Awards Program and Luncheon in Lansing. The program was hosted by the Michigan Community College Association (MCCA) and Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society for Community Colleges. We were accompanied by Mark Hall, Trustees Mary Kay Thayer and Jim DeVries, and the students’ fathers.
While we have several outstanding students who were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, Kayla and Ian were the only two MCCC students selected to the All Michigan Team this year. Kudos to them. They are both excellent students, and Kayla is a Middle College student who has already earned her associate’s degree — she will earn her high school diploma this May. That is the power of the Middle College!
Phi Theta Kappa students must be students who have accumulated at least 12 credit hours and earned a grade point average of 3.5, so they are indeed the cream of the crop, or as the French would say, “la creme de la creme”. Congratulations to all of our Phi Theta Kappa honorees. We are proud of them!
